APC Waiver Policy

Introduction

At Gavin Publishers, we strive to make high-quality research accessible to as many readers as possible. To support this goal, we offer a waiver policy for Article Processing Charges (APCs) for authors who may face financial constraints. This APC Waiver Policy outlines the criteria, application process, and terms under which APCs may be waived for authors submitting to our open-access journals.

Purpose of APC Waivers

The APC Waiver Policy aims to:

  1. Promote Inclusivity: Support researchers from institutions or regions with limited funding resources, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the dissemination of their research.
  2. Encourage High-Quality Research: Facilitate the publication of valuable research by authors who might otherwise be unable to afford the APCs.
  3. Support Global Research: Enhance the visibility and impact of research from diverse geographic locations, contributing to a more equitable global academic community.

Eligibility Criteria

APC waivers may be granted based on the following criteria:

  1. Financial Need:

    • Authors from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) as defined by the World Bank may be eligible for full or partial APC waivers.
    • Authors affiliated with institutions or funding bodies with limited resources may also apply for waivers.
  2. Institutional Affiliation:

    • Authors from institutions or organizations with limited access to funding for publication fees may be considered for an APC waiver.
  3. Research Type:

    • Research with significant societal impact, particularly in underserved areas or fields, may be given priority for APC waivers.
  4. Individual Circumstances:

    • Early-career researchers, independent researchers, and those with extenuating personal circumstances may also qualify for waivers.

Application Process

  1. Submission of Request:

    • Authors requesting an APC waiver should submit a formal request along with their manuscript submission. The request should include a brief statement detailing the financial need and any relevant supporting documentation (e.g., proof of income, institutional support letter).
  2. Review of Requests:

    • APC waiver requests will be reviewed by our editorial team based on the eligibility criteria. Authors will be notified of the decision regarding their waiver request as part of the manuscript review process.
  3. Notification:

    • Authors will receive a formal notification of the waiver decision. If granted, the waiver will be applied to the APC invoice. If not granted, authors will be required to pay the APC or seek alternative funding.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Partial Waivers:

    • In some cases, partial waivers may be offered. The extent of the waiver will be determined based on the financial need and available resources.
  2. Confirmation of Waiver:

    • Waivers are confirmed upon acceptance of the manuscript. Authors must adhere to all other publication requirements and deadlines.
  3. Review and Appeals:

    • Authors may appeal the decision if they believe their request was not fully considered. Appeals should be submitted in writing to the editorial office, providing additional information or documentation as needed.
