Abstract
Ultrasound is a fast, innocuous and accessible imaging method for diagnostic and therapeutical purposes of the hip joint. Existing guidelines and protocols list the main structures to be scanned but lack a logical connection and linkage between steps to ease the operator’s work and minimize patient mobilization and discomfort. We present a total of forty-eight individual steps divided into four patient positioning moments that are described in detail and matched with corresponding ultrasound images and probe positioning examples, logically linked in what we believe is the best balance between detail and a real-world applicable protocol to perform an ultrasound exam of the hip.
