Abstract

Background: THALPOS Mental Health Day Centre for Employees in Athens - Hellas, a pioneer Workers' Day Centre in the capital city of the WHO European Region member states, is ready to present its unique work after a full year of operation. This centre, the first of its kind in Athens, has played a crucial role in the mental health landscape. Approaches: According to the MH Policy and Guidelines set by the WHO and ILO, Hellas has established day centers in several locations to help mental health as part of the Hellenic National Action-Plan for Mental Health 2021-2030. This plan consisted of ten axes and was supplemented by further State legislation. Outcome: THALPOS MH Day Centre, established under the 8th axis of the National Action-Plan for MH 2021-2030, has made a substantial impact in its first year. The program has served 384 individuals, conducting 114 one-on-one sessions, 10 group therapy sessions, and 59 educational workshops and webinars. Additionally, 779 individuals benefited from educational workshops, and 590 participated in community activities. Employee evaluations revealed key insights, including the greater vulnerability of female employees to psychosocial hazards and higher incidences of workplace bullying. Conclusion: The implementation of the National Action-Plan marks a significant transformation in mental health service provision, expanding from former institutionalized care to comprehensive services for the broader population. The Day Centre is leading this change, employing a holistic approach that integrates mental health intervention, information dissemination, and the administration of social care programs, crucially addressing workplace mental health issues.
