Abstract
Objectives Determine the relative efficacy and safety of restricted blood transfusion (RBT) and liberal blood transfusion (LBT) strategies. Methods Our quantitative meta-analysis initially explored appropriate transfusion strategies for this specific disease. Seven studies, encompassing 1004 patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, were included. Results The findings indicate that restrictive transfusion strategies can significantly decrease the overall transfusion volume in acute leukemia patients (95% CI: 2.23-0.38, P=0.006), without compromising treatment efficacy or safety. This approach offers a more resource-efficient alternative to the liberal blood transfusion strategy during anemia treatment. Conclusion Restrictive blood transfusion strategy effectively reduce the total transfusion volume without compromising treatment efficacy or safety in patients with acute leukemia. This approach offers a more resource-efficient way alternative to liberal transfusion strategy in the management of anemia during the treatment of the disease.
