Key Words: Research, teaching, public services
The title of Professor Emeritus of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) is awarded to departing Full Professors, provided that during their tenure at the National Technical University of Athens they have left a strong scientific, teaching and research mark, recognized in Greece and abroad, and in addition, they have made an excellent contribution to the University, Science and Society in general.
For the award of the title, the retiree is required to have made:
- An excellent offer of work to NTUA and clearly beyond its contractual formal obligations.
- At least ten (10) years of actual service at the University at the rank of Full Professor or at least fifteen (15) years of total service at the University, of which at least five (5) years of actual service at the rank of Full Professor at the School. Interruptions of attendance due to travel for scientific reasons or force majeure are counted in the time of total service.
For the award of the title of Professor Emeritus of the National Technical University of Athens, the overall work and contribution of the proposed person is evaluated. Indicatively, and not exclusively, the candidate’s work and tenure must be characterized by the following:
- Excellent contribution to the production of scientific knowledge with corresponding international recognition.
- Excellent contribution to knowledge transfer through academic teaching.
- Excellent contribution to the formation of responsible individuals with scientific, social and political consciousness and provision to them of all the necessary skills that ensure excellent training for scientific and professional careers.
- Excellent contribution to addressing the social, cultural and developmental needs of the country.
- Adherence to the principles of freedom of research, thought and expression as well as respect for the rights and personality of each individual.
- Outstanding contribution through service in administrative positions at the institution or other national or international organizations and recognition by the academic community or beyond.
- Safeguarding the validity of academic status.
- The above are by no means understood in a narrow quantitative sense, but are evaluated qualitatively, so that the excellence of the candidate’s work and contribution clearly emerges.
